Taekwondo for All: Welcoming Our Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community
Martial Arts is for everyone
At Myung Martial Arts, we believe that Taekwondo is a lifestyle that should be accessible to everyone. Located in the heart of St. Augustine, we are proud to be neighbors with the Florida School for the Deaf and the Blind (FSDB). Inspired by their mission to help students "Do More, Be More, and Achieve More," we are committed to ensuring our martial arts programs are inclusive and welcoming to the local Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
Nice
to meet you
A Message from Master Christen
I am excited and eager to welcome more students to our school! To better serve our community, I have begun studying American Sign Language (ASL). While I am still a beginner and learning every day, my goal is to create a space where communication is valued and every student feels seen and understood.
If students and parents are willing to be patient as I continue my ASL journey, I believe Myung Martial Arts will be a wonderful fit for your family. We are lucky to already have several students from Deaf families who are fluent in ASL, helping to make our school a supportive and vibrant environment for all.
Our Class Options
We offer two distinct pathways for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students to ensure everyone finds the environment that best suits their needs:
Integrated Classes (All Ages & Belts): Join our standard classes to train alongside hearing students. This is a great way to be part of the full Myung Martial Arts community, practice together, and build friendships through shared discipline and sport.
Deaf-Only Classes: For those who prefer a specialized environment, we can offer classes specifically for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students. If we can get a group of students together. We are happy to discuss schedules and logistics directly with interested families to make this option work for you.
Why Taekwondo?
Taekwondo is a highly visual and physical art form, making it an excellent fit for students who communicate through sign and visual cues. Our programs help students develop:
Physical Strength & Coordination
Confidence & Mental Discipline
Practical Self-Defense Skills
A Supportive Community Connection
Martial arts is for everyone, and we want our school to reflect the diversity and strength of St. Augustine. We look forward to meeting you on the mat!
